James Rowley Four Wives and their Children

James Rowley had four wives, Mary Shirlock, Hannah Barrows, Mary Day, and Martha Day. James married Mary Shirlock in England aoubt 1854 and had one daughter, Zuriah Rowley. However, her birth record is blank in the spot for the father, so we are not certain that they were married at the time she was born. James joined the church in 1856 and came to the States leaving behind Mary and Zuriah. Mary Shirlock married a Bailey in England and gave birth to five more children. Later Zuriah joined James in Fillmore, UT.

James Rowley came to the states in 1856 on the Enoch Train, Ship roster on microfilm(s) 25691. He came across the plains with the William B. Hodgetts Company (1856) and was (25) years of age. He was on the plains at the same time as the famous Martin and Willie Handcart Companies. In fact he arrive in Utah after these two handcart companies.
